Richard, Having shared the stage with you and watched you from the wings, I was thrilled to finally be a spectator and audience member. How grand you are from that angle! Your timing and improv are marvelous. Carol has a right to be proud of your tribute. You are the jazz, baby! Love, Holly

I saw Carol's show at the Duplex and it was mesmerizing! Was Richard there? I didn't see him.

CAROL CHANNING RULES! A few weeks ago Richard Skipper emailed to offer comp tickets for me and a friend to see his show “AN EVENING WITH CAROL CHANNING” at the Duplex. I was so flattered and pleased he thought enough of me to extend an invitation that I immediately went over to www.amazon.com and ordered a copy of “Just Lucky I Guess: A Memoir of Sorts” by Carol Channing. Alas, the book still hadn't arrived when Richard Skipper's last show of the season came up on Monday, July 29. So despite my best efforts to do a respectful amount of homework, I saw Richard Skipper's show with no prior knowledge of Carol Channing other than having seen her on Broadway in Hello Dolly in the late 1970's. I was ever so surprised by the quality of Richard Skipper's portrayal of Carol Channing. It seemed so authentic, so obviously a labor of love. I spoke with him after the show. I wouldn't have recognized him without his costume, not if my life depended on it. Fortunately his pianist told me to look for a man wearing shorts, and everyone else had long pants on. The real Richard Skipper is so nice, so easy to talk to, and is totally different looking than Carol Channing. I think Richard Skipper is an actor in the best sense of the word. And can he sing! His voice is so completely on pitch, so nuanced, he's really in a league way above what I can fully take in during one performance. I know two people who have seen Richard Skipper's show. One saw it twice and the other saw it three times. I realize now why it deserves to be seen at least twice. Live cabaret, in my opinion, is the greatest of all forms of entertainment. What a joy to have so much of it available in New York City. If there are nicer, more interesting, more friendly people around than the people in the cabaret community, I have yet to meet them. Richard was one of the easiest interviews EVER on my 24-hour commercial-free show tune channel on XM Satellite Radio. Entertaining, interesting, with a great story to tell. And a DEAD ON impression of Carol Channing! I've interviewed Carol, and now I've interviewed Richard! Life is good! Though I have seen Richard’s dazzling recreation of Carol Channing many, many times, I never fail to be thoroughly delighted. He makes every performance seem first-time fresh. His skills as an entertainer are every bit as impressive as his impersonation is uncanny. From beginning to end, he has his audience willingly and gleefully wrapped around his diamond-bedecked finger.

Richard, Just a note to say Hi and tell you what a great show!!! You know what Richard, I love that it isn't an attack show. That it's inclusive, you're terriffic, and nobody is made to feel uncomfortable. Do you have a regular agent? You can work everywhere at big money corporate things and regular money gigs and whatever but I don't think there is an audience that wouldn't enjoy you. This is probably dopey since you probably do all that kind of stuff. I just wanted to tell you how terriffic you are. I know I saw you at Dillons... you were sharing the bill with someone but I don't remember who. xo, baby jane

Saw your show at Lubber Run Park and enjoyed you yet again. Also, introduced another friend, Jonathan to you. He thought you were FAB! I love bringing my friends and watching them watch you. Half way through the performance they forget that you are NOT Carol C. Everyone that I have brought to your shows are not loyal fans of Carol Channing's. It's wonderful watching you work the audience and to see them totally accept you as Carol C. Because you believe we do, too. It's always great to see you on and off stage. You are a truly talented and beautiful person. Hope we get to work together again soon. Love, Bev C

On July 26th at Lubber Run out-door amphitheater you were beset by mosquitos and humidity but you never lost your cool. Not even the sound of gun shots (firecrackers) coming closer caused the slightest loss of character. I have seen you four times and each show is a gem (diamond). Thank you for being such a wonderful star, shine forever in the sky.

Richard Skipper as Carol Channing is BRILLIANT. No other show in or out of NYC comes close to his great talent, flair, love and devotion to Carol and his audience. An event not to be missed by anyone who yearns for top notch talent. A five star entertainer!

I have had two great experiences in my lifetime of going to cabaret/nightclub performances. The first was years ago seeing Carol Channing at the Cocoanut Grove in LA; the second last night seeing Carol again at the Duplex. Richard is breathtakingly talented. His rapport with an audience is amazing and quite frankly, Ms.Channing never sang as well as she did last night! Don't miss this brilliant talent.

Sue and I had a blast! I sent the following email to a theatre going group just this morning. Have a safe great week, Barry and Sue Grossman To: theatercodes@yahoogroups.com Hello all :) My wife and I went to see the cabaret act: "An Evening with Carol Channing Starring Richard Skipper" at THE DUPLEX 61 Christopher Street (@ 7th Avenue South) At first when you enter its hard to believe a cabaret act is in this bathroom sized piano bar! We decided to stay and see how they will possibly do a show! Well we were finally ushered upstairs and to a stairway at the far left that entered into a room set with tables and a stage with piano. To our surprise we were seated at the first table near the stage, the show has some audience participation. At the end of the show we left not only happy to have stayed for the performance we also won a raffle that cost us $5. The prize consisted of a vintage life magazine with C. C. on the cover, a video of what I guess is this exact show on tape, a cute pocket book with many scenes from C. C. movies, and a CD of a songwriter, Karen Benedetto, featured in the show. Annie Hughe's, the guest for the evening, voice is magnificent! The normal cover charge is $20 unless you booked through play_by_play, and there is a 2 drink minimum, well worth seeing. Barry

Dearest Richard. You are the greatest! Any songwriter would be proud to have you sing their song as I am so proud to have had you performing "Swing" in your shows in such a loving and entertaining way! It makes my heart smile every time! I am so happy to know you and share your amazing talent! Thank you for your love and loyalty. Karen

Dear Richard, As always, I enjoyed your show thoroughly -- all of it. Diana Templeton is a fabulous guest; her singing is better and better every time I hear her. You looked great and sang fabulously, but it's no secret that my favorite part of your shows are your interplays with your audience, from the mix 'n match to getting them to join you onstage. The little surprise spontaneous moments when the lighting wasn't quite right or someone was rudely noisy were particularly well-handled in character by Carol, who never forgets she's a star and expects that everyone else, from her audience to her tech supports will treat her as such. Richard, things have been really serious around here (and will be again soon; my daughter has another surgery in a few days) and I haven't gotten out for a while, so this was a great night out for me, a chance to laugh and relax a bit. Thanks again, Carolyn Albert
